Commission offers $1 million for home repair financing to nonprofits

The Missouri Housing Development Commission is offering $1 million for repair and rehabilitation of owner-occupied homes to not-for-profit agencies who are servicing non-metropolitan areas.

Up to $1 million of 2005 federal HOME funds will be made available for rehabilitation, repair, and weatherization, reduction of lead risk, and accessibility improvements, which may include modifications to allow the elderly to remain in their homes. The maximum cumulative allocation to any agency will be $300,000 during the first six months of the program

Eligible applicants include not-for-profit agencies serving all non-metropolitan areas of the State of Missouri. These are communities outside Missouri’s metropolitan areas of: St. Louis, Kansas City, St. Joseph, Springfield, Joplin and Columbia.

This funding is available to Community Action Agencies and other nonprofit organizations that will undertake the eligible activities on behalf of low and moderate income families in eligible areas.

Applications for funding will be accepted by MHDC until 5 p.m., Central Daylight Time, Monday Oct. 18, 2004. MHDC will select proposals from agencies that reflect experience in these types of programs and the capability to complete the work. Decisions regarding proposals will be made during the month of December 2004.

Applicants should visit MHDC’s Web site at www.mhdc.com  to obtain an application, checklist, procedures manual, and program descriptions outlining eligible activities. For more information, please contact Don Brinker, 816.759.6814.

Please note that all proposals will be accepted at the offices of MHDC located at: 3435 Broadway, Kansas City, MO. 64111
