Commission awards 90 grants totaling $6 million for housing services programs

The Missouri Housing Development Commission awarded 90 grants worth $6 million during their Dec. 9 meeting in Jefferson City to organizations providing housing services and assistance for low-income families in Missouri.

This year, MHDC received 153 applications requesting more than $15.8 million in funding.

The Missouri Housing Trust Fund (MHTF) is designed to increase affordable housing opportunities for low-income families. Funding through the Missouri Housing Trust Fund must be used to assist the development of housing or provide housing services to very low-income Missourians, as well as provide support services for varied populations. Funding through the Housing Trust Fund is used to provide permanent housing solutions for the chronic homeless population and activities to keep individuals and families in crisis housed.

Eligible MHTF activities include programs providing emergency assistance for homeless prevention; permanent housing for the homeless; rental assistance; home repair; construction/rehabilitation of homeless/transitional/special needs housing facilities, and program operating support for these types of housing facilities. Proposals cover services throughout the state.

Homeless Prevention $3,108,082
Construct-Rehab Homeless/Transitional/Special Needs Housing $1,382,643
Home repair - weatherization, accessibility, repair and replacement $910,000
Staff/service coordinator financing $434,515
Rental assistance - project based $164,760

The entire list of funded agencies is available here.

Staff reviewed all of the applications received in October 2005, including two statewide proposals and provided their recommendations for funding to the Commission. Proposals cover service in every county in the state.
