Four DREAM Communities Receive Housing Funding

Missouri Housing Development Commission approved funding for four DREAM city housing developments during their meeting Dec. 15 in Jefferson City.

Housing proposals in Kennett, Neosho, Sedalia, and St. Joseph were approved as part of the 2007 affordable housing development funding by the agency.  Each of the cities were selected to participate in Governor Matt Blunt’s Downtown Revitalization Economic Assistance for Missouri or D·R·E·A·M initiative.

D·R·E·A·M Initiative is a comprehensive, streamlined approach to downtown revitalization that provides a one-stop shop of technical and financial assistance for select communities to more efficiently and effectively engage in the downtown revitalization process. The new initiative created through a partnership of three development agencies:  the Missouri Department of Economic Development, the Missouri Development Finance Board, and the Missouri Housing Development Commission.

Development projects approved for funding include:

·        San Regis Apartments in St. Joseph – rehabilitation of 40 family housing units.

·        Lincoln-Hubbard Apartments in Sedalia – conversion of a former elementary school into 38 units for senior citizens.

·        Ely-Walker Apartments in Kennett – conversion of the Ely & Walker Dry Good Company factory building into 46 family units

·        Newton Place in Neosho – conversion of the former Newton Hotel into a 15-unit elderly housing development.

Housing development projects in three other DREAM communities were approved during the 2006 funding cycle in Hannibal, Washington and Excelsior Springs.
