Governor’s Committee to End Homelessness

The Governor’s Committee to End Homelessness (GCEH) has met continuously since 1987. In the early years, the committee met quarterly to exchange information about programs and services, share funding opportunities and discuss homeless needs in the state of Missouri. Currently, the committee meets the first Monday of every month in Columbia, Missouri. Members of the committee are appointed by the governor’s office. Membership on the committee includes representatives from the governor’s office, representatives from key state departments, Continuum of Care jurisdictions and non-profit agencies. The GCEH is currently responsible for the Missouri Plan to End Homelessness, administering the Balance of State Continuum of Care, Legislative Awareness Day and Homeless Awareness Day.

2009 Homeless Awareness Day Poster Submissions

Each year the Missouri Governor’s Committee to End Homelessness holds a statewide youth poster contest for pre-kindergarten/Head Start through high school students and displays the entries at Homelessness Awareness Day at the State Capitol during National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week in November. The following slide show includes the posters that were submitted for the 2009 contest. The theme for the 2009 event was “Homelessness; the Reality is in our Backyard”. The next poster contest will take place in Fall 2010 and the posters will be on display at Homelessness Awareness Day in November 2010.
