Governor Holden opens The Hamptons at Neosho

Gov. Bob Holden officiated at the grand opening of The Hamptons at Neosho, 64 units of affordable housing in Neosho, Mo. Approximately 75 residents, dignitaries and media were on hand for the Feb. 15 ribbon cutting ceremony.

Commenting on the importance of housing in a community, the governor said, "Without quality housing, you cannot have quality families that produce good students. Good values and commitment come from good families. You cannot have quality in a decaying environment.”

Developed in a joint effort by the Neosho Housing Authority and Jeffrey E. Smith Companies, the 64-unit development was financed through a $1,340,256 federal HOME loan and $428,667 in federal and state Housing Tax Credits. This is the third development in six years where MHDC has partnered with JES Companies to finance affordable housing in Neosho, including Neosho Meadows and Neosho Villas apartment complexes.

MHDC is also financing a fourth development, Stone Bridge Apartments, where the Neosho Housing Authority and JES Companies will totally rehabilitate the old Neosho Intermediate School, just north of the town square, and convert the building into apartment units for seniors.

Neosho has experienced 13.5 percent population growth from 1990 to 2000, mostly due to the rapid industrial development in the city.
