Grand opening ceremonies set for Century Towers apartments
New apartments for seniors were celebrated in special ceremonies marking
the grand opening of the newly refurbished Century Towers apartments
Sept. 26 at 627 N. 25th Street in St. Joseph.
Developers Mark Gardner and Tom Carlson were on hand to open the 38-unit
apartment complex for seniors that was rehabilitated by Carlson Gardner
Properties of Springfield, Mo. The development includes nine one-bedroom
apartments renting at $340 per month and 27 two-bedroom apartments
renting at $420 a month.
“The uniqueness of the building attracted us to it,” said Gardner. “The
building has virtually no hallways going to the apartments. Each
apartment area is set off by stairways. It is also a magnificent
structure from the outside that has allowed us to make an immediate
impact in the community.”
The rehabilitation work has been financed by the Missouri Housing
Development Commission with $485,000 loan at one percent interest for 30
years and $264,272 in federal and state Housing Tax Credits. This
funding means the apartments will provide affordable housing for the
next 30 years.
Carlson Gardner Properties and Missouri Housing Development Commission
also partnered to build the Patee Villas senior apartments that opened
last year in St. Joseph.
