Lt. Gov. Maxwell officiates at opening of Jefferson City apartments for
seniors
Lt. Gov. Joe Maxwell officiated at special grand opening ceremonies for
Capitol City Elderly Apartments at 1 p.m., Nov. 13, at 1303 Edmonds in
Jefferson City. Lt. Gov. Maxwell serves on the Missouri Housing
Development Commission and is the state government advocate for seniors.
"As Elderly Advocate I must tell you it is our duty to provide
affordable housing for Missouri's senior citizens, and this building is
a proud example to be followed around the state," Maxwell said. "I thank
MHDC and the Jefferson City Housing Authority for continuously
dedicating quality service that benefits our seniors."
The 50-unit apartment complex was developed by the Housing Authority of
Jefferson City. The one-bedroom apartments will rent at $253 per month.
The affordable housing development was financed through a $710,000
federal HOME loan at 0 percent interest for 40 years and $374,500
federal and state Housing Tax Credits.
Missouri Housing Development Commission has invested almost $4 billion
in Missouri housing, covering every county of the state, for rental
housing developments, home mortgages, home improvement loans, grants to
neighborhood housing groups and other programs.
MHDC does not build or renovate housing itself; rather, it functions as
a bank, providing financing directly to borrowers or through a network
of private lending institutions. Most of MHDC's programs operate as a
public-private partnership.
More information about the development can be obtained by contacting
then Housing Authority of Jefferson City, 573.635.6163.
