Newly
renovated apartments, new community center open in Clinton
West Central Community Action
Agency (WCCAA) and local officials opened the newly renovated Antioch
Hills Apartments and a new Community Activities Center in ceremonies
held Nov. 18.
The 96 units of the apartment complex, formerly known as Harmon Gaines
Duplexes, was completed rehabilitated, both inside and out, by Straub
Construction in a project that took more than a year and a half. The
apartments rent for $297 per month, providing affordable rates for low-
to moderate-income families.
The project was financed by the Missouri Housing Development Commission
through a $1,439,000 loan at zero percent interest for 40 years and
$294,000 in federal and state housing tax credits. USBank also
participated in the financing of the project.
“This day marks a great achievement for West Central and the Clinton
community too see what was here before and celebrate what is here now,”
said Brandon Laster, MHDC Public Information Officer, during the
ceremonies. “These affordable housing units have been recovered to
provide a safe and quality environment for Clinton families for years to
come. In addition, a new Community Center will give area residents a
center piece for community activities.
The new Community Activities Center includes meeting rooms, computer
terminals, a day care and youth play area and offices for West Central.
Most of MHDC's programs operate as a public-private partnership. It is
through these partnerships that MHDC has invested almost $4 billion in
Missouri housing, covering every county of the state, for rental housing
developments, home mortgages, home improvement loans, loans to landlords
for renovations, grants to neighborhood housing groups and other
programs.
