Commission awards almost $2 million for home repair and improvement

KANSAS CITY – Eight agencies that provide home repair and improvement programs for multi-county areas received a boost Friday, Jan. 17, when the Missouri Housing Development Commission granted almost $2 million to their programs during its monthly meeting in Jefferson City.

The funds were allocated to community agencies for rehabilitation, weatherization, reduction of lead risk and accessibility improvements, including modifications to allow the elderly to remain in their homes.  Eligible agencies activities include those working with low- and moderate-income families in non-metropolitan areas.

“Home repair and improvement programs are serving a vital role in Missouri communities,” said Lt. Gov. and MHDC Commissioner Joe Maxwell.  “This funding will help leverage the great work already being done by these community agencies.  We do this to ensure our seniors and families have safe, affordable places to live.”
