Commissioners, St. Louis dignitaries will open senior apartments Feb. 6

The grand opening of McCormack House at Forest Park Southeast senior apartments will be held at 1 p.m., Feb. 6, at 4575 Cadet (the corner of South Kingshighway and Manchester).  Governor Bob Holden, Lt. Gov. Joe Maxwell and State Treasurer Nancy Farmer are scheduled to attend.  All three are members of the Missouri Housing Development Commission.  Also scheduled to attend are St. Louis Mayor Francis G. Slay, Alderman Joseph Roddy, Jr., and representatives from Washington University Medical Center and USBank Community Development Corporation.

McCormack House at Forest Park includes 89 one- and two-bedroom affordable housing apartments.  The complex also includes a dining area, community room with large screen television.  Each apartment includes kitchen, living room/dining room and a full handicap-accessible bath in addition to a spacious bedroom. Additional services include: a meal program, assistance with housekeeping, laundry, personal care, transportation, medications, and regular visits by a geriatrician.

The new seniors’ facility in Forest Park Southeast represents the second such facility developed and managed by McCormack Baron.  The first, McCormack House at Westminster Place, was completed and dedicated in 1997.  It is located at the intersection of Vandeventer and Olive Avenues.

Direct financial support for the $9.3 million seniors’ residential facility was also provided by the Missouri Housing Development Commission, through the award of $1,935,000 in loans, $505,000 in federal and state Rental Housing Tax Credits, and $970,000 in Affordable Housing Assistance Program credits.  Also participating in financing are US Bank Community Development Corporation and the City of St. Louis.

Local community support was provided by the Forest Park Southeast Housing Corporation.  The development will also benefit through the “greening” of an adjacent, formerly blighted wedge of property recently acquired by the St. Louis Science Center.  Plans are to develop a “Science Corner” on this site, which will provide neighborhood youth and McCormack House residents with opportunities for hands-on science education.

The facility was constructed by Altman Charter Company and Trivers Associates was the project architect.
