Ground breaking
set for affordable senior housing in St. Joseph
The Economic Opportunity Corporation of Greater St.
Joseph (EOC), in partnership with Jeffrey E. Smith Companies, will host
a ground breaking ceremony at 11 a.m., July 8 for Whittington Estates, a
40-unit apartment complex for seniors. Local, state and city officials
are expected to attend.
When completed, the complex, located at Buckingham
Street and Country Lane in St. Joseph, will include 40 two-bedroom
units. Construction is expected to be completed in Spring 2004.
The Missouri Housing Development Commission is
assisting in funding of the project through an $891,000 federal Home/CHDO
loan at 0 percent for 35 years and a $2,624,823 construction loan. The
project is also being financed with $295,157 federal and state Rental
Housing Tax Credits through MHDC. The City of St. Joseph has committed
$383,807 of the city’s federal HOME funds to the project.
