Commission hosts multifamily apartment management conference

Missouri Housing Development Commission will host the 2006 Property Management Conference on April 25-26 at the Clarion Hotel, 3333 S. Glenstone Ave., in Springfield.

The conference is specifically designed for property managers specializing in Section 8, LIHTC, HOME, MHDC Fund Balance, Tax Exempt Bond, or Missouri Housing Trust Fund financed properties.

“We are offering property managers an opportunity to learn more about the rules and regulations governing these programs,” said Deb Giffin, MHDC Asset Management Director.  “The conference also provides an opportunity to discuss and share ideas with some of the top property managers in the state.”

The 2006 Property Managers of the Year for small (less than 50 units) and large developments (51 or more units) will be announced at Tuesday’s conference luncheon.  The award symbolizes the top affordable housing property managers that foster a quality of life that exemplifies the standards set by the Missouri Housing Development Commission.  Nomination forms are available on the MHDC Web site.

April 25 conference topics include:

§     Identifying and Preventing Drug Abuse

§     Minor Maintenance Tips

§     Compliance, accounting and property management for HUD, Tax Credit, HOME and Rural Development properties

§     MHDC requirements for physical, financial and occupancy success

§     Asset Management techniques on anticipated income, rent increases, use of reserves, insurance claims,  and boosting occupancy

§     Turning safety presentations into social events

§     Detailed discussions governing MHDC and HUD manuals

§     Transporting Apartments into Communities

§     Onsite Social Service programs and how they work

April 26 discussions will include training on HUD’s Rental Housing Integrity Improvement Project (RHIIP) by Susan M. Johnson, President of The Success Group.

Registration is $200 for the two-day conference or $125 for each single day attendee.  Participants may register online.  Exhibit space is available for $50.  Questions can be directed to the MHDC Asset Management Department in St. Louis, 314.877.1350.

MHDC is the state's housing finance agency. The Commission is dedicated to strengthening communities and the lives of Missourians through the financing, development and preservation of affordable housing. Since 1969, MHDC has encouraged and assisted in the production of affordable rental housing and provided homeownership opportunities for thousands of families while investing almost $4 billion in Missouri housing for rental housing developments, home mortgages, home improvement loans, loans to landlords for renovations, grants to neighborhood housing groups and other programs.  MHDC does not build or renovate housing itself; rather, it functions as a bank, providing financing directly to borrowers or through a network of private lending institutions. Most of MHDC's programs operate as a public-private partnership.
