Commission offers $2 million for home repair financing to nonprofits

The Missouri Housing Development Commission is offering $2 million for repair and rehabilitation of owner-occupied homes to not-for-profit agencies servicing non-metropolitan areas.

The funding is a available to Community Action Agencies and other not-for-profit organizations for repair and rehabilitation of owner-occupied homes for low and moderate income families.

Up to $2 million of 2007 federal HOME funds will be made available for rehabilitation, repair, weatherization, lead-risk reduction, and accessibility improvements, which may include modifications to allow the elderly to remain in their homes.

This year’s funding is a significant increase above the $1.4 million allocated for 2006 when ten Community Action Agencies provided home repair assistance to rural homeowners across the state. Funding was increased this year to allow for use to repair storm damage and to make funding available to Regional Planning Commissions as part of this year’s funding cycle.

Eligible applicants include not-for-profit agencies serving all non-metropolitan areas of the State of Missouri. These are communities outside Missouri’s metropolitan areas of: St. Louis, Kansas City, St. Joseph, Springfield, Joplin and Columbia.

Applications for funding will be accepted by MHDC until 5 p.m., Central Daylight Time, Friday, Oct. 13, 2006. MHDC will select proposals from agencies that reflect experience in these types of programs and the capability to complete the work. Decisions regarding funding of proposed developments are to be made December 15, 2006, during the monthly Commission meeting in the Harry S. Truman Building Rooms 490-492 in Jefferson City.

Applicants should visit MHDC’s Web site at www.mhdc.com to obtain an application, checklist, procedures manual, and program description outlining eligible activities. For more information, please contact Don Brinker, 816.759.6814.

Please note that all proposals will be accepted at the offices of MHDC located at: 3435 Broadway, Kansas City, MO. 64111
